New Deal

The intention of stabilizing the economic capability of a nation is the most significant goal of any leader. However, with President Franklin Roosevelt’s strategy to uk/pros-and-cons-of-fdrs-brainchild-the-new-deal/">implement the New Deal, the nation was not really able to achieve sustainability for a long term. Roosevelt’s main intention was to expand the government’s power to help the sectors which were affected by the great depression. It is true that the federal capability was able to increase its power but with a corresponding irreversible cost. Because of such expansion, additional federal segments were constructed which comprised of what was called the â€Å"alphabet agencies† as stated in Wikipedia. Most of these agencies were not really significant in providing safety measures for people who were directly experiencing economic upheaval. Even the Supreme Court ruled out that a number of those federal offices were constructed unconstitutionally. A number of such departments just contributed to the imperfect allocation of federal funds which greatly affected the national budgetary allowance. A huge portion of wasted money was used for non-performing departments which could have saved the general public some more social welfare funds. One main proof of such wastes is the reduction of these agencies to only a few ones which can still be recognized today. Some of the largest remaining departments still in operation are the Security and Exchange Commission and the Social Security System. These agencies have direct impacts to the public since the former provides registrations for businesses while the latter intends to provide financial and welfare securities for each individual. The New Deal’s bargaining approach in controlling the money supply and the economy in general did not really provided the three R goals-relief, recovery and reform. People were not really relieved from the problematic economic downturn due to misallocation of funds. Recovery was not actually achieved due to the global effects of the Wall Street Crash in 1929. Lastly, reform only produced additional problems in managing the federal government due to the establishment of satellite departments which complicated the governing process. Translocation of over-Breeding Species

Translocation is the method to alleviate the over-breeding problem of animal besides killing them. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) broadly defines translocation as ‘‘the deliberate and mediated movement of wild individuals from one part of their range to another† (e. g. IUCN, 1987). Translocation includes Capture and handling, captivity or some form of prolonged restraint, transport, release into an unfamiliar location four processes. Despite its wide use and importance, translocation traditionally has a low rate of success due to the effect of chronic stress. But Tufts University has done the measure on translocation and found out the solutions (Biological Conservation Molly J. Dickens 2010). Administering anesthesia or tranquilizing during capture, reduce the risk of the animal perceive handling and transport. Normally, Health assays, veterinary visits, or other forms of observation and intervention are conducted during captivity, decrease the total number of visits, thus decreasing added exposure to handling stress.Specific aspects of transport such as vehicle design, stacking density, ventilation, and even the quality of the road and the standard of driving should be measured before translocation. Finally, the use of a ‘‘soft-release† strategy, in which animals adjust to the area in a special designed cage before being released, may decrease novelty of the release site since animals will have time to adjust to their new surroundings without additional stress of finding resources or facing predation. This research makes translocation be a feasible method nowadays. There are two types of strategy in translocation. Introduce to a place with similar biotic and abiotic factors but the population of over-breeding species should be small. For the advantage, animals easily adapt the new condition. But the animals still have a high breeding rate, the over-breeding problem will threaten the ecosystem again a fter a long period. Another strategy is to introduce to a place with new environment. It actually can reduce the breeding rate effectively. But there is a lot of works should be carried out both before and after. Before animals can be introduced into an environment biologists must determine the reason for the over-breeding and over-population problems and also assess the risk of translocation. After translocation, biologists should study the animals to ensure they are surviving and breeding in their new environment. Translocation is the most suitable for some species of animals. For example, Grey kangaroos are one of the over breeding animals. They are capable of breeding throughout the year, but most breeding occurs in summer. The female kangaroo is usually permanently pregnant, except on the day she gives birth. This leads a high birth rate. Apart from human, the effect of predator on kangaroo’s population is limit. And also, eastern Grey Kangaroos are the most social of the kangaroos and so it is rare to see one alone. One good reason to gather together in a group is that more individuals can be more attentive to possible threats from predators. As kangaroos dead from the effect of predator is low, but the high breeding rate continuously increase the population, finally cause over-population. But the grey kangaroos are a high adaptability species. They can still alive in the change of environment and this minimizes the effect of translocation. During a dry period, males will not produce sperm. It is suitable to relocate them to a less wet place to reduce their ability of reproduction. Kangaroos are animals that don't burp methane. In Australia, kangaroo compete with cattle and sheep. The increase in number of kangaroos enables decrease number of sheep and cattle, and therefore reduces the release of greenhouse gases. This is the main reason why we save the kangaroos rather than eating them.

Perception vs Reality

She as a married woman who has become pregnant; the only complication is the at her husband has not returned to Boston. The Puritan society believes that engaging in intimate relations with one who is not married to them is a sin. Hester has to stand on a scaffold for seven real hours and permanently wear a scarlet letter ‘A' as punishment. When she first walks out of prison, some of the older towns women shout; saying she should be branded, or even execute De (34). Hester has accepted her punishment as given by their government and church yet reject De it.She believed that what she has done was not a sin due to its loving nature and its source, t e true love of her heart (55). After the passing of time, the community's opinion of Hester slowly changes. The town begins to think of Hester more of a human, and less of a living sermon toward s Chapter 13: Another View of Hester. They realize that her stigma of her sin, the scarlet let ere, is not showing Hotel 3 that she was an ad ulterer but that she is able (108). They notice all of her char itty work that she has done without being asked. She does all of the dirty, disgusting, dishonors blew jobs that no one else wants to do because she feels as if someone should do it. Hester, though accepting the enmeshment, believes it is wrong because it was justified. The reality is that eve en though she sinned in God's eye, she did it from true love, and it inevitably happened thro ugh human nature. Hester was not alone as the one who sinned, and his identity is revealed slow y in the middle of the novel, and established greatly by chapter 12. Ironically, Hester fellow sinner is the town's most prominent Reverend, Reeve rend Timescale. Until his final sermon, in which he reveals that he is the father 0 f Pearl, no one except Hester and Chlorinating knew of his hidden guilt. The entire town Para seed and admired Timescale. At any sermon in which he says that he is the most sinful man, t hey do not question him. The pe ople look at him with pure awe and feeling that he is the greatest because he admits that he too can sin because he is human. The entire settlement of Boston bell eve that Timescale was the most righteous man they have ever met, and he was the IR only chance Of salvation so they can go to heaven if predestined.Through Damselfly's eve rigidifies facade, you can find the truth in which he hides. Timescale is not the Bible bound man everyone believes he is, he is the one who helped create the scalded elf child, Pearl. Timescale also shows his true cowardice in Chapter 1 2: The Ministers Vigil. When pearl asks Timescale, â€Å"Wilt thou stand here with mother and me, tomorrow noontide? † , Timescale responds with, â€Å"Not so, my child. Shall, indeed, stand with thy mother and thee one other day, but not tomorrow! At the great judgment day † , (102).Pear I did not admire his response, believing that he IS embarrassed to be seen with them. With Pee earl questioning him Hot el 4 so, Timescale shows his true fear of confessing his sin to the world in order to receive forgiveness from God. He shows his true hypocritical character, saying how p people should always confess their sins yet does not do so when he has sinned. Timescale is not the only individual that the people think is helpful and overall outstanding, yet is very c introductory of popular belief. Many of Boson's citizens failed to see the corruption in Roger Chlorinating w hen he first came about to Boston.Chlorinating came off as a complete stranger to almost everyone in the town, so many suspicions were not designated towards him. Roger was the e first man with medical experience which has come into Boston, and the citizens took advent age of the opportunity. The village welcomed Chlorinating with open arms and treated him as if he was already apart of the community. After a few years, Timescale becomes ill. T he entire town trusts Chlorinating so much that they ask him to watch over their beloved re veered, Timescale (80).Everyone feels ran_ACH more secure when Chi lingeringly become mess the spiritual guide for Timescale, in hopes that Chlorinating will cure his pains and help him reestablish himself as a healthy man he once was. Soon afterwards, the community becomes eerie of Chlorinating due to his p hysterical change. He looks more like an evil man, with long fingers, relating him to the Black Man, † grew to be a widely diffused opinion that the Reverend Arthur Timescale, ,was haunted either by Satan himself or Satin's emissary, in the guise of old Roger Chilling Roth. (85). There is only one person who truly knows Chlorinating for what he really is, a ND that's his wife, Hester Prone. Hester is the only person who knows Rogers true identity y as untold by him to anyone Roger Prone. Roger gives a false name from the start so the people of Boston Hotel 5 will not look at him differently because his wife sinned and had intimate relate ions with another man. While everyone assumes that Roger is indeed helping the Reverend, he I s truly torturing him.Roger tells Hester, â€Å"Even if imagine a scheme of vengeance, what could do better for my object than to let thee live, than to give thee medicines against all harm and p aril of life,so that this burning shame may still blaze upon thy bosom? † (49). Chlorinating does not care about the well being as the colony believes. The thing he wants to do is slowly tear apart Damselfly's soul layer by layer as if he was peeling the pages off of a book. Adults are not the only ones susceptible to being judged by society. Sometimes the most innocent beings, are looked upon as the most corrupt.Society often judges individuals before they even have a chance to defend the messes. Sometimes, society judges an individual before they can even walk. In The Sac role Letter, the society instantly judged Hester daughter, pearl, soon after she was born. The e town kids would throw mud at Hester and Pearl anytime they saw them, and none of them WA need to play with Pearl because she would attack them when they threatened either her mother r or herself (60). Even the towns highly appraised leaders disregard Pearl as hardly another huh an being (74).

Analysis of Federal agency's proposal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Analysis of Federal agency's proposal - Essay Example The global economies have been in the recent past more vocal and vibrant in designing and imposing regulation frameworks towards curbing the increase in green house gas and the emissions into the atmosphere as a strategic step towards controlling effects of the gases on weather and the environment. In such an effort, the EPA proposed a rule on 13th April 2012, setting standards towards the new establishments in manufacturing and processing plants that depend on fossil fuels in firing. Millions of comments on the proposal were received through which the EPA got the feeling of other stakeholders and this warranted some revisions and amendments towards the proposal. This led to the release of the much anticipated for proposal by the EPA on 20th September, 2013 and this actually forms the basis of this paper. New plants that rely on fossil fuels (coal and natural gas) and EGUs (electric utility generating units) are the main targets of the proposed rules although being just one among the many regulations that Obama administration pursues towards curbing the increase and effects of GHG emissions into the atmosphere. Federal guidelines under state regulations are currently the main tools on use in regulating the carbon emissions (Miller, 2013). The globe has witnessed great change in climatic patterns as are attributed to global warming phenomena. Global warming on the other hand has been associated with lots of causes which range from human related factors to the natural causes. Humans in particular have been pointed to contribute highly towards causing the global temperatures to be on the rise especially through such activities that are associated with emitting carbon and other green house emissions into the atmosphere. It is to be noted that besides the industrial contribution to increased emission of GHG, individuals also contribute towards the menace through ‘small’ acts such as smoking and burning fossil fuels for

Nurse Practice Act Discussion Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Nurse Practice Act Discussion - Assignment Example Teaching as a responsibility in nursing entails informing the patients on the medication guidelines (Munro, 2012). As an obligation of a nurse, teaching is evident when advising patients on how to handle the wounds, especially during the post-operative stage. The responsibility extends to other patients undertaking other different forms of medications. Nurses explain to the patients the advantages and disadvantages of the actions taken so that every activity undertaken with regards to healing is in their best interest. Some of the nurses decide to transmit the actual practice of teaching to upcoming nurses (Penn, Wilson & Rosseter, 2008). They impart the knowledge gained to ensure the incoming nurses exhibit high levels of knowledge and professionalism. In my practice as a general nurse, a reflection of the teaching role is evident when I pass necessary information to the patient. The information passed depends on the condition of the patient in terms of knowledge base and age. In some cases, the teaching may entail actual demonstration to the patients how to handle the medication when they move back home. Providing full information enhances the carefulness among patients leading to improved

Psychobiology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Psychobiology - Essay Example Many researchers use both these terms interchangeably. Bio psychologists use empirical experiments to study changes in the nervous system activation in response to a stimulus. There are various techniques/ methods used to measure this activation (Abraham, F. D, 1992): The main essence of this approach is to emphasize on the assessment of person. Although mind is contingent on the brain, the central therapeutic concern should be the life story of the individual patient interacting with others in the context of society and culture (Adler, N. E, Matthews, K. A, 1994) In this theory the rather vibrant nature of psychiatric infirmity is more highlighted, and is considered that was opposed to the idea that a hypothetical underlying lesion should be postulated just because mental disorders may seem unintelligible (CYNTHIA SCHUPAK, 2000). According to this assumption there is an absolute differentiation between normality and mental illness. As an alternative the relative nature of the range between mental illness and normality is emphasised. Psychosocial factors dominate in the understanding of the functions mental illness. For example schizophrenia is explained as a mal-adaptation that could be understood in terms of the patient's life experiences (Meyer 1906). A difficulty in explaining a mental illness in the psychological context does not necessarily means a brain abnormality. (iv) The mechanisms by which mental illness emerges in an individual are psychologically mediated Mental illness is not a single word analysis. The main emphasis is on a detailed human action analysis rather than a reductive analysis of physical cause (Bonnes, M Gianfranco, 1995). Marketing and the Information Technology Sector Research Paper

Marketing and the Information Technology Sector - Research Paper Example An analysis would consider the physical characteristics of the product and therefore its transportation and storage needs, the promotional activities associated with the product, the sensitivity of sale volumes of the product to price changes, and what distribution coverage is best met by customer demand for the product, i.e. whether the product should have mass distribution or a more exclusive distribution. Depending on the coverage of distribution required, the marketer would then be able to decide whether to use resellers, such as wholesalers or retailers, to assist with getting the product to the customer, or to use specialty service firms who would act as brokers in bringing the customer to the product. Another important aspect the marketer has to consider in choosing channel partners is the type of relationship, whether independent or dependent arrangements would be used to move the product to the customer. 2. How effective is the Tutorial in presenting the material: In covering the issues related to product distribution, the material provided in the tutorial can be easily understood by those without any marketing experience. In providing links to specific issues, the reader need not go through the entire tutorial but can select a topic that is of interest, and summary charts, such as those in the Wholesalers and Retailers section are well used to assist the reader with assimilating all the information in a topic. Given the breadth of information available in the tutorial, there are aspects of the tutorial that do not provide the depth of information required by some marketing specialists thus requiring further research elsewhere. Unfortunately, the tutorial does not provide any sources for further information.  Ã‚

Post World War I jewry in america - Essay Example Rarely did the attacks turn violent although there were few recorded cases. Such include 1902 attack of Irish workers and police on the funeral procession of Rabbi Jacob Joseph in New York City, the lynching of Leo Frank in 1915, the murder of Alan Berg in 1984, and the Crown Heights riots of 1991. Anti-Jewish waned off following the Second World War and the rise of the American Civil Right Movement. Claims by The Black Nation of Islam that Jews were responsible for black labor exploitation, introduction of drugs and alcohol and unfair denomination into the community was conclusively done away with following a survey done in 1964 by the Anti-Defamation League. The survey revealed attitudes on anti-Semitism with the majority percentage of 29 Hispanic being most Anti-Semitic trailed by 36% for blacks and 9% for whites. The Jewish population has remained strong politically, mostly liberal with the democratic pattern continuing heavily into the 21st century. The vast majority of Jews, since 1936, have been recorded to have been Democrats. This saw to the 74% of the Jewish populous voting for John Kerry, a Catholic of partial Jewish descent in the year 2004. Again in the year 2006 87% voted for Democratic candidates for the House (Mendes-Flohr and Judah, 62). Jews were fast becoming prominent in Congress and state governments through the country in the year 1990 and significantly proved to be ardent supporters of the American Civil Rights Movement. American Jews have since prospered throughout the early 21st century with them being disproportionately represented in academia, business, and politics. Going by Forbes, Forty-five percent of the top 40 of the 400 richest Americans are Jewish. Twenty percent of professors in leading universities being Jews, Forty percent of partners in the leading law firms in New York and Washington, Thirty percent of American Nobel prize winners in science and 37 percent of all American Nobel winners are

Portfolio Models Essay Example for Free

Portfolio Models Essay The use of portfolio models in marketing has been gaining increasing use since 1960s. The portfolio models were developed with the aim of helping in the development of market share and growth. These models have been used as strategic thinking model in the making of business decision. These models include BCG, General electric/shell, Hofner-Schendel, Experience Curve and Porters Competitive models. Each model has been criticized on the capabilities and according to its scope on market share. These models have been found to lead to the wrong decision in investment and other business processes. The portfolio models assume a causal relationship between the market share and the profitability of a product in the market. The common scope of portfolio models is the way it tries to ignores some of the most relevant strategic issues in business. Therefore, all models cannot be taken as an effective strategic decision making model. It should however be discarded or it should be used with caution. This paper does not recommend the use of portfolio models and an alternative way should be sought to replace this. Introduction Portfolio models can be defined as a method or strategy in which a new product will be introduced in the market and perform as it was expected. In the 1960s, there was growing assertion of the use of portfolio models in marketing. There was growing interest on the development of market share and growth strategy which later came to be known as marketing portfolio. The BCG matrix, Hofner-Schendel, Experience Curve and Porters Competitive models and GE/S were meant to achieve the marketing needs especially when introducing new products in the market. They were meant to stimulate strategic thinking especially among the senior marketing executives in the turbulent business environment. However, there has been dysfunction of these models in the way they are taught and the way they are applied in the market. This study will look into the applicability of portfolio models in strategic decision making in marketing. The study will evaluate the view from a number of literature to understand whether the model can really be applied to the decision making process or not. This paper therefore evaluates the available literature which has given an insight into this model to understand how it can be applied in strategic marketing decision. There are other methods that were introduced to give a product a distinctive market share especially when it’s introduced. There are four commonly used methods to approach this matter, the Boston consulting group (BCG), the General electric/shell (GE/S), Hofner-Schendel, Experience Curve and Porters Competitive models. Therefore to give the clear meaning of the portfolio model, there is a need to understand how the portfolio models work. The first step to be taken when using the above models is to understand the different business/ marketing strategies of the company. Portfolio models in marketing decisions Portfolio models management generally defines the way business comes up with strategic decision to venture into the market. In this definition, the strategic marketing decision is a method by which marketing ideas are made and implemented in order for a product to have stronger grounds in the market. At any one time, company will be coming up with new product which will need to be introduced to the market in the most successful way. Portfolio models therefore provide the business with important tools for analyzing of the strategic decision to determine their effectiveness in the market (Abell and Hammond, 1979, p. 42). Purpose of portfolio models in strategic decision making in marketing There are mainly four main purpose of using the portfolio models in the strategic marketing decisions which are pursued in portfolio management and must be achieved through any model that is used. These goals include the maximization of portfolio, seeking of the right balance of the available projects, aligning of the portfolio strategically, and aligning the projects to the available resource (Ansoff, 1984, p. 12). Smith and Swinyard (1999, p. 2) also show that portfolio marketing models are important for an organization to assess the overall success of a new product in the market before a lot of money is used in the development of the product. They both call for the use of multiple marketing models in order to achieve the overall success of introducing new products in the market. This will reduce the failure rate of the products and extend their life cycle in the market. (Thomas, 2002, p. 61) The models can also be used as important tools to forecast the level of competition and therefore draw upon effective way of beating this competition. They help to forecast the performance of a product in the market so as to draw up strategies to effectively introduce it in the market. Edgett, Cooper, and Kleinschmidt (2002, p. 2) showed that in order to achieve full development of a new product in the market, there has to be effective portfolio management. There are different types of portfolio models that include the BCG, GE/S, Hofner-Schendel, Experience Curve and Porters Competitive models. In his review of the portfolio models, Day (1977, p. 32) showed that the use of bubble diagrams had been gaining increasing use in business. Day shows that these models resemble the portfolio models with stars, cash cows, dogs, and others. He showed that these models could be used successfully to forecast the market in the future. Day therefore asserted the role of matrix like Boston matrix in marketing. The Boston matrix could be used to show four quadrants as has been shown by Day and corresponding strategies which could be used in each quadrant. However Day criticizes the matrix on the sense that it is too narrow on its scope. He asserts that the BCG matrix has a narrow focus on the market share of the product. On the other hand Morrison and Wensley (1991, p. 106) provided an insight into the portfolio planning models as used in making business decision. They asserted that the use of BCG matrix in portfolio management is inhibited by difficulties in measurement of the rate of market growth and the relative market share of the product. This is due to a number of reasons. They gave the most prominent reason being the fact that market boundaries are often very difficult to fix which meant the different matrix methods will give different recommendations for a given situation. Therefore they argue that the common scope of BCG matrix in a way ignores some of the most relevant strategic issues in business. Though these other models are not as famous as BCG, Day still argues that use of them could also lead to success in the market. Day advocated and recommended the use of Porters competitiveness that he viewed to have higher possibilities of success than other models if its well implemented. It is commonly used in an already operating business with other products in the market. The experience curve can only be help to the company that has been in the market for sometime with a different product. The experience that the company has gained in the given period will determine the strength of the company in the market. This has been used by several companies like coca-cola in the introduction their mineral water. It would be hard for a company that has not been doing well in the market to succeed with the new product. They showed that Boston matrix was a technique for one season and not for all the season. This is because its popularity and use increased in the 1960s and 1970s and then plummeted due to the challenges faced in the market. They showed that the single chart could be successfully used to determine the growth potential and the competitive strength of a product in the market but this has rapidly changed with time. Armstrong and Brodie (1994, p. 38) evaluation on the applicability of the Boston matrix concluded that the use of the matrix to guide investors often would result to wrong decision through the use of BCG. General Electric and Shell, Porters competitive models are designed for long term use in the market, once the product has been introduced in the market, the models techniques still continues to support the product through the entire life in the market. Whichever model is used, it has to be used for entire life of the company because no other model will fit without altering the companies business especially when the company is introducing new product in the market. Although they based their study on a small number of graduates in a class, they gave a further warning against the use of the matrix in a simple mind. Armstrong and Brodie (1994, p. 3) carried out a study on the effect of the portfolio planning methods on the overall decision making process. Their study pointed out the weakness in the use of BCG matrix in making strategic decision in an organization. Their study revealed that the use of BCG matrix in making investment decisions was highly likely to lead to unprofitable investment while Robert and Merton (1989, p. 210) advocates that the implementation of other models instead of matrix were intended for lifetime decision making. If not well implemented, there is a probability of causing life time losses and would be hard to recover unless the product is withdrawn from the market. Each model has some weaknesses bas they are exposed out in the way models assume a casual relationship between the market share and the profitability of a product in the market. Morison and Wesley (1991, p. 26) also pointed out lack of consistency in the use of the portfolio models in determining market growth and profits. These studies give varied views on the use of Boston matrix, GE/S, Hofner-Schendel, Experience Curve and Porters Competitive models in making marketing decision. They all seem to point out on the weaknesses of these models in light of their theory and application. There are other ways a business can prosper other than using portfolio models. The strategies used in introducing the product in the market is all that matters, portfolios are just to give the business a rough idea on how to approach the marketing matter but not to give a conclusive tread which the business should follow. Conclusion Portfolio models are applied in portfolio management. They are applied in management to make strategic marketing decision. Though they had gained increasing use in different times, they have some weaknesses that are fatal to the welfare of the business in future. On the other hand they may give a rough idea on how to approach the market issues and on how to introduce the new product in the market. In all portfolios, not is able to predict the growth and the profit margins or losses on the other hand for the product, thus making them less important tool for the marketing. However the use of models should be discarded and there be implemented new strategies that would be able to address the issues of the business on long term and in both growth and revenues that are likely to be gained by the introduced product. Recommendations: The use of portfolio models is not recommended and if they have to be used, they must be implemented with great caution. None of all models has proofed an effective strategic decision making in regard to the marketing issues. It should however be discarded or it should be used with caution. This paper does not recommend the use of portfolio models and an alternative way should be sought to replace this.

Overview Of The Water Purifier Industry Environmental Sciences Essay

Overview Of The Water Purifier Industry Environmental Sciences Essay Approximately 80% of diseases in India are caused by water borne micro organisms. This is true in rural as well as urban India. However, awareness of health risks linked to unsafe water is still very low among the rural population. The few who treat water resort to boiling or use domestic candle filters. In comparison, the urban Indian is definitely more health conscious and understands the necessity of purifying water before it is fit for consumption. Even so, it is estimated that roughly 7% of urban Indians use non manual water purifiers. More Indians need to become aware of the importance of installing drinking water purifiers. There remains a huge untapped market. Though quite a few city dwellers still boil water, many are switching over to modern domestic water purifiers. Electrical or chemical based home water purification systems are most suitable for urban households because they require little or no manual operation and depending on the technology can eliminate biological contaminants, chemical toxins and excessive salts. The main contaminants are, however, micro organisms. UV purifiers and advanced chemical based systems deal effectively with viruses, giardia and bacteria. This is one of the reasons why UV and resin based purifiers are the most widely used water purifiers in India today. It is estimated that around 80% of urban dwellers do not purify tap water. Many of them are from the lower income strata and cannot afford UV or reverse osmosis water purification systems. They are the potential buyers of economical but effective chemical purifiers. This is the market that Eureka Forbes and Hindustan Unilever are tapping aggressively. Chemical based purifiers, Aquasure and Pureit, together account for 20% of water purifiers sold. Both are becoming increasingly popular because they are effective and affordable. The two brands are reported to be growing at 100 percent per annum. Also, they do not run on electricity and are ideal for locations where power supply is unpredictable. Neither do they demand continuous water supply. Power and water are still scarce even in urban India. It is estimated that roughly two thirds of the existing water purification market belongs to UV water purifiers and one third is shared between reverse osmosis purification systems and chemical purifiers. In the UV purifier segment, Eureka Forbes Aquaguard is the clear market leader with approximately 68% market share. Other brands include Philips Intelligent Water Purifier and Kents UV purifier. The UV purifier market is estimated to be growing at a lower rate than the chemical based segment. Reverse osmosis purifiers, which are rather expensive and not the preferred option in many areas, have a smaller share of the market when compared with UV purifiers and chemical based systems. In the reverse osmosis segment, Eureka Forbes is again the major player with 60% share. A major portion of the remaining 40% belongs to Kent reverse osmosis Systems. That the Indian market has tremendous potential is evident from the fact that global majors such as Philips and Hindustan Lever have stepped in and are looking to increase their share of the market. The three principal players today are Eureka Forbes, Hindustan Lever and Philips. In the years to come, we are likely to see others entering the fray Water purifiers are one of the most used kitchen utilities Available in India. Water Purification and Backpacking is an industry in itself in India. Portable versions of Water Purifiers are available for Camping and Hiking. Water Purification Methods include the mechanized versions as well as the age-old and time-tested Water Purification Tablets. The Water Purification Process includes removing contaminants from the raw water source. Some of the home remedies for Water Purification are boiling or the use of the household charcoal filter. But these do not ensure the required standard of Water Purification thus a proper treatment is mandatory. Thats where the Water Purifiers For Home step in. treatment of water by ozone also provides certain levels of purity. Utilizing the advanced technology and machines, we offer water purifiers, which are widely used for the domestic water purification. It makes the water suitable for drinking and everyday usage like drinking, bathing, cooking and washing etc Features Low maintenance No Chemicals Compact Light Weight Eco Friendly Easy Handling Available 250 Liters per hour 500 Liters per hour 1000 Liters per hour Chapter 2 Various technology used by different water purifier Activated Carbon (AC). Activated carbon (AC) is particles of carbon that have been treated to increase their surface area and increase their ability to adsorb a wide range of contaminants activated carbon is particularly good at adsorbing organic compounds.   We will find two basic kinds of carbon filters Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and Solid Block Activated Carbon (SBAC).   Contaminant reduction in AC filters takes place by two processes, physical removal of contaminant particles, blocking any that are too large to pass through the pores (obviously, filters with smaller pores are more effective), and a process called adsorption by which a variety of dissolved contaminants are attracted to and held (adsorbed) on the surface of the carbon particles. The characteristics of the carbon material (particle and pore size, surface area, surface chemistry, density, and hardness) influence the efficiency of adsorption. Reverse Osmosis (RO)- Diffusion is the movement of molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. Osmosis is a special case of diffusion in which the molecules are water and the concentration gradient occurs across a semipermeable membrane. The semipermeable membrane allows the passage of water, but not ions (e.g., Na+, Ca2+, Cl-) or larger molecules (e.g., glucose, urea, bacteria). Diffusion and osmosis are thermodynamically favorable and will continue until equilibrium is reached. Osmosis can be slowed, stopped, or even reversed if sufficient pressure is applied to the membrane from the concentrated side of the membrane. Reverse osmosis occurs when the water is moved across the membrane against the concentration gradient, from lower concentration to higher concentration. To illustrate, imagine a semipermeable membrane with fresh water on one side and a concentrated aqueous solution on the other side. If normal osmosis takes place, the fresh water will cross the membrane to dilute the concentrated solution. In reverse osmosis, pressure is exerted on the side with the concentrated solution to force the water molecules across the membrane to the fresh water side. Reverse osmosis is often used in commercial and residential water filtration. It is also one of the methods used to desalinate seawater. Sometimes reverse osmosis is used to purify liquids in which water is an undesirable impurity (e.g., ethanol). For example Kent RO is present in the market Ultraviolet Radiation (UV)- Ultraviolet purification uses a UV light source (lamp) which is enclosed in a protective transparent sleeve (usually quartz). The lamp is mounted such that water passing through a flow chamber is exposed to the UV-C light rays. When harmful microbes are exposed to the UV rays, their nucleic acid absorbs the UV energy, which then scrambles the DNA structure of the organism. The cell is rendered sterile and can no longer reproduce. The cell is now considered dead and is no longer a threat. UV treatment is an excellent choice to eliminate biological contamination from most home drinking water, whether your home is on a municipal water system or untreated private system (well, lake water, etc.). Its sole purpose is to kill harmful biological contaminants, and therefore should always be combined with other forms of filtration (GAC / carbon block, KDF, or reverse osmosis) for reduction of heavy metals, chlorine, VOCs, and other chemical contaminants. Ion Exchange (IEX) -Most popular Ion exchange (IEX) media in POU for heavy metals reduction is ATS or ATC media, zeolite etc. Various IEX resins are often used for industrial processes for specific water use. Ion exchange theory in layman language is simply gaining and loosing atoms (swapping atoms). In drinking water for example soluble lead is a positive ion whilst chlorine is a negative ion (cat ions+, anions-). Most common ion exchange in rural area is Softener. Another popular often called redox technology. is IEX media used in POU is KDF 55 (copper zinc alloy in granule form) for its high chlorine reduction. By simply swapping atoms this metal alloy turns chlorine into harmless chloride. Many POU makers using this alloy claim soluble lead reduction, bacteriostatic proprieties, some go as far as cysts and bacteria removal and a host of other miracles. KDF 55 is widely use for shower and garden filters which are impressively compact and effective de-chlorinator Chapter 3 Water Purifier Companies in India The main Manufacturers of the water purifiers are following Eureka Forbes Philips Kent Usha Brita Jaipan Kenstar Maharaja Whiteline Orpat Zero B . Chapter 4 On the basis of Porter 5 force model we can analysis the water purifier industry Competition in the market Porters 5 force Model for water purifier industry Threat of new Entrants- High Market entry barrier is not high. Brand Identity. Low cost of capital imposes a Low entry barrier. High RD cost. Market Exit Barrier is also not so high. Intensity of Rivalry among existing Competitors- Very High Customer loyalty is very capricious. Entry level Advertisement war in water purifiers. Low profit margins. Perceived lack of differentiation in technologies by customer. Pressure from Substitute product Medium Packaged drinking water. Ground water / Municipal Supplies. Chemical distributed by government to clean water. Boiled water Bargaining power of Suppliers -High Suppliers product is an important input to the buyers business. Number of suppliers are also few. Supplier to buyer ratio. Bargaining power of Buyers-High Customers are price sensitive. Spreading towards rural areas with increased awareness and health Consciousness Chapter 5 Target Customers Water purifier industry is focusing on middle class of the society because this class is educated and enough money to buy the products. Companies have to work less to sell their products to consumers. If company starts focusing on rural area it very difficult to tell them what are the benefits of water purifier. Company have to do lots of effort to sell their products. by this way the sale will be very less. With increasing number of people becoming conscious of the risks of drinking contaminated water, the demand for water purifiers is rising rapidly. In the past few years, Indian water purifier industry has witnessed an exponential growth of 22% CAGR. The water purifier industry sales grew dramatically during 2009 as compared to previous fiscals due to improving demand and expanding production capacity. The industry saw high growth of rate 17% during 2008 due to the increasing awareness for safe drinking water. The UV segment, which constitutes more than 55% of the industry and is a key focus area for water purifier manufacturers, due to the higher margins it offers, is expected to continue its rapid growth. According to Research, Indian Water Purifier industry will continue its growth trajectory and is expected to witness a turnover growth of more than 22% CAGR during the period between 2011 and to 2014. To get high sales in market the companies have to differentiate their products from other products present in market. Lot of advertisement should be done to boost the sale of product. Free samples of water purifier should be installed in some houses to show the efficiency and effectiveness of product. CONCLUSION There are number of water purifiers players are present in the market. There is also huge rise in demand of water purifier in market because increase in awareness of general public. To grab the market, companies need to heavily advertise and make their product differentiate. So that general public can attract toward their product. From Proter 5 force therom, it easier to start company of water purifier. Target customers are the middle class of society. The industry should focus on the middle class of society to increase their sales and revenue.

Warhammer40k: The darkest millennium

Warhammer40k: The darkest millennium This is the 41st millenniuman age of wars. Since the God-Emperor of Mankind ended the Age of Strife and set up the Imperium of Man 10,000 years ago, his twenty Primarchs[L1] and sons started the Great Crusade to recapture every human colony which lost during the warp storm in the galaxy. As the banner of the Imperium was spreading fast, the best son of the EmperorWarmaster Horus, betrayed his own father shamefully. We call it the ‘Horus Heresy’ .Half of the Emperor’s Space Marine Legions converted to the worship of the four Chaos Gods. Though these rebels were ultimately defeated, the Emperor was critically wounded in the final battle with his traitor son Horus and survived on life support in a persistent vegetative state on the Golden Throne. In the absence of his guidance, the Imperium has to become a very brutal authoritarian regime. And now, the Imperium is simply fight for survival. Our story begins from 60 years ago. That time I was still served in the Imper ial Guard in the 101st Cadian legion, served for the God-Emperor of Mankind as a normal guardsman. And I knew a man whose name is Charles Morgan, an old friend and a great legend of the Imperium of Man Chapter 1: For the Emperor! The Far-East Segmentum[L2] of the Imperium System of Chris Chris No.1 West state A mouth after landing â€Å"We need backup! Backup!†A sergeant shouts loudly â€Å"There are too many of them! Retreat! Retreat!† He waves his chainsaw sword and cuts a head of an ork â€Å"Fall back Guards!†He shouts again. The lasgun[L3] in his hand keeps spraying deadly laser beams. â€Å"Sergeant Morgan?†A young soldier stands beside him and says â€Å"Sir! We’re running out of ammo!†The young soldier looks nervous â€Å"What we gonna do, sir! Charles looks at him, the young soldier had lost an eye in the battle before and his body armor has torn, blood on his face. He puts down the sword â€Å"I have no idea, just pray to the Emperor† He says. â€Å"Seriously, sir?† The young man says with fear on his face â€Å"But it has been three weeks since we were trapped here† Charles glances at him â€Å"Don’t worry son, our reinforcements will come soon, you must strengthen you faith guard and remember, you are not fighting for yourself or anything else, you are fighting for the emperor!†He turns around towards the young soldier â€Å"On your feet guard!† The soldier snaps to attention. â€Å"Who are you?†He asks loudly. â€Å"The man of Cadia!† The young man shouts. â€Å"What are you?†He asks again. â€Å"The Sledgehammer of the emperor and the cornerstone of the Imperium!†He cries loudly, with frenzy on his face. â€Å"Correct guard! Remember, we’re the army from the Eye of Terror[L4] and we have nothing to fear! Now dismiss!† â€Å"Yes, sir!†The young man quickly pick up his lasgun and gets into his position. Charles looks around ,they are in a small town in the west state of Chris No.1.Obviously orks have killed all the civilians before they came, he and his squad has been trapped here for three weeks, no backup, no fire support and no reinforcement. He knows that if there are still no backup or any supply, he and his men will soon be exhausted and they will finally become a big meal of these damn green hybrids. â€Å"Waaaaagh!!!† â€Å"Orks incoming!!!† A guard shouts. â€Å"Hold your position guards!†He says â€Å"In his name, attack!!!†He puts the orks into the sight of his lasgun again and pulls the trigger. â€Å"Boom!!!!†Suddenly, a big explosion happens in the centre of orks. â€Å"What the h†Then, a giant figure interrupts Charles, he looks up at the sky, and the sky turns into dark. â€Å"It’s the ‘Kingfisher ’!†A guard shouts excitedly. â€Å"Praise the God-Emperor† Charles whispers. Soon the giant figure shows itselfThe Imperial Luna class cruiser ‘Kingfisher ’. With the powerful canons on it, the orks are completely in a mess. â€Å"We made it! We made it!†Charles shouts excited â€Å"Here are our reinforcements!† â€Å"Yeah!!!!† The last ten guards burst into cheers. â€Å"All right guards!†Charles stands out from the bunker â€Å"Let’s fight back!†He shouts â€Å"Imperial Guard! Attack!† He holds his chainsaw sword and rushes towards the green sea in front of him â€Å"For the Emperor!!!†The sawtooth of high-speed rotation cuts a head of an ork easily, with blood splashing on his face. â€Å"For the Emperor!!!† So excitedly did the ten guards follow his step, hold their lasgun and shoot madly. A big shadow appears from the horizon, it’s the Leman Russ main Battle Tank, with 101st on its armor. The 400mm main gun can lacerate orks’ bodies easily, and three heavy bolters[L5] on it could destroy everything which dares to approach them. Then, another two Leman Russ Tanks appear. â€Å"It’s a tank squad!† Charles shouts excited. Then, more and more tanks appear and after these tanks, there are Armoured Fist Squads[L6], Veteran Squads and the best of all—the Storm Troopers, with Hellgun[L7] in their hands. â€Å"Goddamnedhumans!!!!† A roar comes with anger. â€Å"A Warboss!† Charles screamed â€Å"Attention guards!† Then a big self-made missile fires from the green sea. â€Å"BOOM!!!† The Leman Russ tank in the front was destroyed in a second. But obviously its’ rude behaviour attracts more and more attentions. Thousands of laser beams and bullets fly towards it. â€Å"Waaaagh!!!!† The ork Warboss covers its’ face with its’ big hand. â€Å"Iwillbe back!!!† Then it turns around and run away quickly. The rest of orks cannot keep fighting any more without their boss and the guards soon clear the area, send every ork to the hell. â€Å"Sergeant Charles Morgan!† A captain of The Storm Trooper walks towards him. â€Å"Sorry man, we’re late, the greenskins from north slowed us down.† â€Å"That’s OK, I’m already very glad that you come.† â€Å"So sergeant, get on the Chimera[L8] over there, let’s back to the ship, someone wants to see you.† â€Å"Someone? Who?† â€Å"A master from the Ordo Malleus[E9].† The captain says â€Å"Usually won’t be anything good you know.† â€Å"Yep, to tell you the truth, these greenskins are cuter than these judges.† â€Å"Oh, I agree with you on that, so good luck man, we have to go now.† Chapter 2: An impossible mission â€Å"Judge Johnson! I’m telling you that’s impossible!† At the bridge of the ‘Kingfisher’, Charles shouts loudly. â€Å"The Emperor needs you, sergeant!† A man with a powerful powered armor says. â€Å"If it is, your majesty† Charles says â€Å"The Emperor will never give us a suicide mission!† â€Å"No, he won’t indeed.† The judge says â€Å"Only if the Imperium is in great danger.† â€Å"Great danger? By who? These geenskins? You must be kidding me!† â€Å"And you should know that I’m from the Ordo Malleus not the Ordo Xenos, so I’m not in charge of the orks’ business.† â€Å"I know who you are, your majesty.† Charles says â€Å"You came for daemons, but have you even think about what kind of daemon will choose such a poor world?† â€Å"You mean Chris? She’s not poor in fact.† Johnson says. â€Å"Oh, that’s not what I heard of.† Says Charles. â€Å"Then what you think why you are here sergeant?† He asks â€Å"If she is just a normal world, why would the commanding room send you guys here?† â€Å"What?† â€Å"I mean it’s unnecessary to send a Cadian legion to a normal world, isn’t it?† â€Å"So Chris must be something wrong.† Says Charles. â€Å"And it must be something about Chaos!† Answers Johnson â€Å"Clever sergeant!† â€Å"So why don’t you find some Space Marines or Adeptus Sororitas[L10]?† Asks Charles. â€Å"Oh~you know what’s the meaning of ‘stalk’ sergeant? What I need isn’t a war machine, instead, I want a man who can use his brain.† Says the judge â€Å"I need a spy, not a super worrier, do you understand me sergeant?† He walks around Charles and says â€Å"And you are the man that I’m looking for.† â€Å"Yes, your majesty, as your wish.† Charles salutes to the judge. â€Å"Good sergeant, now come with me, you are not alone.† â€Å"You mean there is still some else will join the mission?† â€Å"You will see.† â€Å"What? You want me to work with these guys?† In the bar of the ship, there are seven men sitting in the corner of the bar. â€Å"Let me introduce them for you sergeant.† Says Johnson the judge â€Å"The tallest man over there is the notorious pirate‘rattlesnake’ and the pretty lady in front of you is the assassin from the Officio Assassinorum[L11] names Brambles, the beautiful lady on your right is Alyssa Linster from the Alaitoc[L12] of Eldar and the bald guy on you left is the famous mercenary from CatachanEugene and the last gentleman over there is brother O’stantintic from the Adeptus Mechanicus[L13]!† â€Å"A group of mobs.† Charles whispers. â€Å"Hey! You wanna cause troubles boy?† The bald guy shouts. â€Å"I’d love to, bastard!† Charles provokes. â€Å"Come boy! I killed thousands of men like you!† Eugene laughs â€Å"Useless guardsman!† Suddenly, Charles takes out his combat knife and put it to his neck â€Å"Say it again!† His shouts â€Å"Who is useless? Who!† â€Å"Easy sergeant.† Johnson appears â€Å"Impulsive young man.† He sighs â€Å"And you!† He suddenly point at Eugene â€Å"Shut up your mouth Eugene! We are a team now!† He looks around â€Å"I don’t want to see anything like this an more! Are you clear?† â€Å"As your wish, your majesty.† â€Å"You have three hours, see you at the bridge.† Says Johnson â€Å"Now dismiss!† â€Å"All right guys, our plan is† In the bridge of the ‘Kingfisher’, a group of men with different status and faith gathers together. â€Å"So that is our plan, you get it?† Johnson says â€Å"Captain Wolf of the Imperial Navy will drop us in the north pole of Chris No.1, there is an ancient temple and we’re gonna stalk there to find out what the heretics are doing there, and then put them and their business into hell! And during the mission the ‘Kingfisher’ will be always above us! Are you clear?† â€Å"You got it!† â€Å"What about you, Sergeant Morgan?† â€Å"I’m fine, sir!† â€Å"All right guys, from now, forget who you really are, remember, you are just like ‘them’!† â€Å"No problem, sir!† â€Å"All right, the Emperor protect!† Johnson prays. â€Å"The Emperor protect!!!† â€Å"Let’s move out!† -Charming Lee See you next season! Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Essays -- Essays Papers

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight As with so many stories written in the Middle Ages Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is filled with wonders, magic and knightly pursuit of fame and nobility. It combines folklore and romance as does, according to The Norton Anthology, no other known work. The character of the Green Knight fascinates and amuses. Most people would not think of it as an Arthurian-time creature. The Green Man in fact, is a part of an ancient folklore where the beheading of a green man would assure the return of spring next year. The passage that I am discussing takes place almost a year after the Green Knight has visited King Arthur's court to challenge the court. He has specifically challenged Sir Gawain who steps forward to accept the challenge. The passage starts with the appearance of a castle. This is very significant to the story, and this fact is communicated to the reader in the description of the castle and even by the initial fact that it appears so suddenly and so very conveniently after Sir Gawain's prayer. Sir Gawain has been suffering, trying to find the Green Knight. The Green Knight has set a date on which they will meet, and Sir Gawain, as is the custom for knights, has to keep his promise that he will fight him. Furthermore, Sir Gawain is the best of King Arthur's knights and his five-pointed star symbol on his shield stands for truth so there is no way he will not keep his promise. We are made aware of the importance of the castle first when it just suddenly appears from nowhere and secondly when we notice it is set in a green field. The green field makes no sense to the reader because it is the middle of winter, but it does signify the fact that the appearance of the castle is not acci... ...ain is not aware of. Sir Gawain is just grateful that he has found this castle (or that he has been led there) and that he will have a place where he can spend Christmas day. He does not see all the symbols that make this castle special. From all the clues that the author gives us, we know that the castle is crucial for the story as well as for Gawain's life. He is not aware of it, but the castle is the place where he is tested, and ultimately his future is decided there. It is very typical of this kind of story to include such symbols, like the castle, to convey to the reader that whatever happens there should be remembered because it is important part of the story. Classical Theory: The Good Son :: essays research papers fc

After watching the movie the good son I found a lot to similarities between what went on and the classical theory. I plan on highlighting Cesare Beccaria’s classical theories central assumptions and giving examples of events that occurred in the movie to connect the two. To setup some of the story I’ll introduce you to the characters and what their role is throughout the movie. The mother and father are Wallace and Susan Evans, and their children are Henry and Connie. After Mark Evans mother dies, and his father Jack goes out of town on business Mark is sent to live with his Uncle Wallace and Aunt Susan and their two kids for three weeks.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The classical theory is one that believes that human beings were believed to act in terms of their own self-interest, but also to be capable of considering which course of action was really in their self-interest(Classical 1). Also the classical theorists believed that people were free willed, making them completely responsible for their actions(Bohm 12). The state would then construct laws and punishments in such a way that people would understand peaceful and non-criminal actions to be in their self-interest through strategies of punishment based on deterrence(Classical 1). When it came to punishing individuals, Beccaria believed that the only purpose for punishment was for deterrence to make sure that that individual or anyone else who knew of the crime did not also commit the same crime(Bohm 14).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One of the assumptions that the classical theory makes is that it assumes that everyone is motivated to engage in crime through the pursuit of their self-interests(Agnew 17). As a child most of what you do is in the pursuit of your own self-interest, at least so it seems at the time. In the beginning of the movie the crimes start out slow that Henry commits and seems to drag Mark into every time he does, but with them being so small Mark does not think anything of them. For instance, the two boys start throwing rocks acting as they were grenades and it then escalades into throwing the rocks through panes of glass on the building that they are inside of. Another example, it is right after that point in the movie that Henry takes Mark to a well and pulls a box out of the well that he has hidden. Inside the box are a lighter and some cigarettes that Henry lights up and gets Mark to take a drag.

Gender Studies in Emily Brontes Wuthering Heights Essay -- Wuthering

Gender Studies in Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights  Ã‚   Gender played an important role in the style of writing known as "Gothic". Traditional stereotypes were often broken. Men were not always portrayed as dominant, strong, rational or masculine. Likewise, women were not always portrayed as weak, submissive, irrational, or feminine. This essay will take a look at the relationship between Catherine and Edgar Linton in Emily Brà ¶nte's Wuthering Heights. We will take a look at how their characters are portrayed, how this affected their marriage, and how each character retained some of the traits attributed to their gender. Catherine's character will be examined first, since she is one of the main characters in the book. Catherine was not your typical sweet, caring, angelic little girl. Ellen describes her by saying, "Her spirits were always at high-water mark, her tongue always going--singing, laughing, and plaguing everybody who would not do the same. A wild, wicked slip she was-" (p.32), and, " In play, she liked, exceedingly, to act the little mistress; using her hands freely, and commanding her companions: she did so to me, but I would not bear slapping and ordering; so I let her know."(p.33). From these two descriptions of Catherine, it seems she was always testing her limits, not at all submissive. Even as a child she had a strong mind that would not easily be swayed. It is obvious that Catherine was dominant and even domineering, an example of this would be the way she continually ordered her playmates around and by resorting to physical abuse to get them to do what she wanted them to do. Later in the book Catherine described herself as a child by saying she was "half savage, and hardy, and free"(p.97). Edgar's chi... ...ar gave up his judicial office, stopped attending church, and did not go anywhere anymore. So he assumed the wife's role by staying home and raising his child, and that was Catherine's final show of dominance. Edgar and Catherine had a complex relationship. Each went into the marriage for different reasons. Edgar thought he loved her but only loved an idealized version of her, and Catherine married him to help the man she truly loved, Heathcliff. He thought she was perfect, she thought he was weak and easy to control. Eventually, these idealizations faded away. Throughout their relationship, Catherine and Edgar switched gender roles. While they did switch roles, each one managed to keep traits that were attributed to their own gender at that time. Works Cited: Berg, Maggie. Wuthering Heights: The Writings in the Margin. The Eyes of the Dragon Essay

The novel's title, The Eyes of the Dragon, holds great significance to the book. In the novel, King Roland, ruler of the city Delay, kills a dragon and promptly mounts It head on his bed room wall. King Reload's son, Thomas, discovers he can spy on his father using the dead dragon's eyes. By entering a secret room, next to King Reload's chambers, Thomas can look through two peep holes which align with the eyes of the dragon. Thomas has never received his father's attention. He is always overshadowed by his brother Peter. When Thomas discovers he can spend time with and watch his father, albeit without his father's knowing, Thomas Is greatly Intrigued. The title, The Eyes of the Dragon, is a symbol of how far Thomas Is willing to go to have any connection with his father. He is willing to spy and spend all his night in isolation Just to watch his father. The title and symbol also helps the reader understand how Thomas is damaged when he later sees his father murdered. 2. The Eyes of th e Dragon is one of the few fantasy novels written by Stephen King. The novel revolves around fantasy elements such as kings, wizards, and dragons. The novel also has a family genre as many of the conflicts revolve around disputes between sibling, Thomas and Peter. 3. The novel, The Eyes of the Dragon, is written in objective 3rd person. Stephen King is omniscient throughout the novel. He is able to tell the feelings of multiple characters throughout different chapters. In the novel, Stephen King consistently breaks away from the story, to provide his opinion on recent events in the story. When Thomas was first introduced to the story, Stephen King explained his unbiased reasoning on why readers may thing Thomas Is a villain, anti hero, or cacti. . The story takes place In the Kingdom of Delaine, a fictional kingdom, which resembles medieval folklore. Delaine is actually part of a much larger universe, In- Worlds, which contains many other of Stephen King's novels. The kingdom of Dela ine is similar to 15 century Europe. Due to this setting, the story lacks advanced technology that could have helped solve many problems. Peter, accused of killing his father, was sentenced to life Imprisonment based on 3 non eye-witness testimonies. Using modern day technology, the people of Delaine could have easily seen Peter was Innocent.Since Delaine Is a medieval realm, the town people are all caste inside of a feudal system. This affects the people's manner of living and shows how the common folk struggle in social hierarchy (farmers vs†¦ Noblemen). Throughout the story, the farmers are forced to put up with higher and higher taxes given by the noblemen. Due to Detail's fantasy setting, the kingdom has a rich history of dragons, wizards, wars, etc. Characters often reference these events later on. The setting Is extremely similar to medieval England.Characters have a scalar dialect and tend to use Old English words: such as, ‘twats' and its'. However, the dialect i s spells certain differently. Is are consistently replaced with yes. For example, wife' and Me'. Overall, the setting creates quite a calm atmosphere. The city of Delaine is functioning normally in the beginning. Townsfolk consistently state the city is too calm and problems are bound to come. After King Reload's murder, the atmosphere becomes dreary and bleak as the townspeople are under consistent oppression by the new king poisons King Roland and frames Peter the murder. This act put Peter in prison for life. This begins Pewter's struggle of escaping prison, proving his innocence, and lamming his kingship. This also begins Flags opposing quest to bring chaos and destruction to the peaceful Delaine. These characters consistently clash throughout the story creating the main, person vs†¦ Person, conflict. 6. There are many conflicts throughout the story. Unknown to Flag, when the wizards poisons the king, Thomas witnesses the event and later learns Peter, his older brother, is i nnocent. After Peter is Jailed, Thomas becomes King of Delaine.Thomas is faced with the internal conflict of testifying Peters innocence and freeing him or keeping the throne, his one rise to name. This person vs.. Self-conflict causes Thomas much anxiety throughout the story. Peter also have a person vs.. World conflict after he is Jailed. The entire town now thinks he is a murderer. He is forced to free himself from the prison by himself and then prove his innocence to the towns people. There is a separate plot in the story of Ben Stead's quest to free Peter. Ben Stead, Pewter's sole remaining friend, goes to great lengths to help free Peter. He must do so without the townspeople or noblemen finding out as they all believe Peter is murderer. Ben Stead also has a person vs†¦ Ate conflict as his family has a curse of bad luck and ‘unfortunate stars'. Ben must try to break his family's history and live a happy life. There is also a person vs†¦ Person conflict in the so cial hierarchy. The townsfolk are consistently arguing with the noblemen over issues like taxes. This escalates to the formation of a rebel army that intends to take over Delaine. 7. After a climactic battle between Flag, the evil wizard, and Peter, Flag is shot with an arrow in his eye.Mortally wounded, the wizard magically disappears before he can be apprehended. Since Flag is the source of has in Delaine, his disappearance leads to the removal of chaos. Without Flags interference, Peter is able to claim the kingdom of Delaine. He proceeds to lower taxes and solve disputes between the farmers and noblemen. Since Peter is now king, Ben breaks his family's history of bad luck. He is now the closest person the most powerful person in the kingdom. Since Peter is now free Thomas is relieved of the guilt of knowing Pewter's innocence. Part B 8.
